General
A very simple but effective method of storing manure is storage in an open pit. The bottom and walls are lined with plastic foil.
Choice of material
A foil that is excellently suitable for this purpose is the Genap Fecatex foil with a thickness of 1 mm. This foil complies with the requirements as formulated in the technical construction guidelines for manure reservoirs from the Ministries of VROM (Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment) and L&V (Agriculture and Fisheries) and also has a KIWA certificate. Naturally, other types of foil, such as HDPE, can also be used. The use of a foil reservoir prevents pollution of the groundwater.
The embankment can be extra protected by using a specially developed fabric to protect the plastic foil. This material, Genatex 1000, increases the lifetime because it forms an extra buffer against the action of UV radiation on the foil.
If desired the pit can be covered with sheeting, with the manure being put in between the two sheets. This creates a completely closed system for the storage of manure. This cover is made from Genatex 630 or Genatex 850. This is a fabric-reinforced foil with a special coating for extra long protection against UV and is available in the colours green and grey. A pit with this cover complies with the legal obligation to cover the pit.
Particulars
The pit is simple to create, and the excavated soil can be used straightaway to form a dike around the pit. The pit is measured and the lining made to size, and this can be installed by Genap installation employees if desired. Naturally, before fitting the lining the pipework required for filling and emptying the reservoir must be installed first. After the lining has been laid plastic foil lead-throughs then serve to make seals.
